How to mesure ring size at home
Hey there! Today we want to clarify for everyone a question that our followers ask us every day (some of them in secret) and without a doubt is one of the most important when deciding on a piece that will value a lot in time.
So… How to measure ring size? Here and now we will try to explain it in an easy and quick way so you can do it at home. Even a little further down in the post you will have a pdf file with a graduated band that you can use to measure it exactly.
How can I tell what size my ring is?
A ring size is a unit of measurement that usually ranges from 3 (the smallest) to 13 (the largest) and varies greatly between men and women. On average, a woman wears rings ranging from 5 to 7, with size 6 being the most popular size. For men, a usual size goes from 8 to 10 with 9 being the most sold number.
Now, each number symbolizes a length in millimeters (mm) which is, let’s say, the length of the metal band before joining (the length of the metal band). Size 3 equals 14.1 mm in length. Each 0.4 mm in length corresponds to an increase in size of 0.5.
To summarize, it would look like this:
In this way you can establish your ring size simply by knowing the length or thickness of your finger in millimeters.
How do I measure my ring size at home?
There are several methods (three or more) to measure your ring size at home. Regardless of which one you implement, it is important that you apply them more than once to get the most accurate measurement.
The reason why a ring size measurement must be done repeatedly is because our finger is not always the same size. Different times of day, body temperatures and activities can expand or contract the fingers a little and this can result in different measurements.
Measurements should be taken at least three times at different times of the day and averaged to get a perfect measurement.
Method 1: Using a string
The simplest method of all is using a string, strip of paper or perhaps some dental floss. The process is to take any of these materials and place it around the contour of the base of your finger until it covers the entire circumference making a small mark where the material has overlapped.
Once your finger is covered and you have marked the material you only have to measure with a ruler how much of the string or strip of paper is needed for the material to join, that is, how much is the minimum necessary to cover the finger without it being too tight or too loose.
Just do this measurement at least three times and you will have a good average of millimeters with which you can then find your size as specified in the previous section.
Method 2: Using a ring sizer
We will provide you with a pdf with a ring sizer (graduated band) that you can cut out and use by placing it around your finger, and we will explain how to use it.
Method 3: Using a ring template
On the web it is possible to get templates with all the sizes explained above. Once downloaded to your computer and printed, you can cut them out to insert your fingers or contrast the figures with a ring you already have to check which figure fits best.
This way you can find your ring size from home if you already have a previous piece.
I made a mistake: Can I change the size of my ring?
If in our case we assure you a free change in the size of your engagement ring, there are several considerations that you should always keep in mind regarding this issue.
1.Not all rings can be resized. A specific amount of inlays, a fancy band design or certain metals such as chrome may make it impossible to resize without compromising the design.
2. Increasing or decreasing the size of a band involves the addition or subtraction of materials such as metal and stones which, in some models, translates into higher cost.
Why choosing the right size is so important?
It is not possible to give something so significant as a gift or to venture into such a symbolic purchase without being sure that everything will go well. So details like material, size and how comfortable it sits on the finger are the most important factors when we are ready to make the final decision.
A ring that is smaller than it should be can really hurt the fingers and become unbearable to wear, just as one that is too big can get lost constantly.
Mastering the standard sizes (US in this case) is one of those general culture facts that is always good to know and that will help you avoid a lot of headaches (and injuries) in the future.
